Aloha Friday

It's Aloha Friday at An Island Life!  Take a break from posting and answer a simple question.  Then be sure to check out all the other bloggers participating.  It's a great way to get to know each other.

My Question this week:

I have been doing some winter sowing  to get ready for my garden this spring.  Winter sowing is where you use recycled containers, like yogurt cups or milk jugs, to make mini greenhouses that set outside all winter.  The seeds germinate when the conditions are right in your area and there is no hassel of hardening-off like with seeds started inside.  (See wintersown.org for more info.)

Do you have a garden each year?  If so, have you started any seeds inside yet (or outside, if you are winter sowing)?

My Answer:

We have a huge vegetable garden each year, so I like to start nearly everything from seed.  So far, I have started celery, eggplant, brussel sprouts, parsley, black-eyed susan vine, and johnny jump-ups.  However, I am just getting started.  Tomatoes and basil are next on my list.

I have never had a garden. Ask anybody who knows me and they will say I have the most Un-Green thumb around. But, the last couple years I have really wanted to try my hand at a small vegetable garden. My dad always had a vegetable garden so when he and my mom downsized and moved right up the street from me, I thought this would be a perfect project for us to do together. Sadly, right after they moved, my dad was diagnosed with cancer and passed away last May. I really regret that we never got the chance to do that. I know nothing about gardening but I'm determined to try a very small one this year.

We live in a condo on a golf course - so no room for a garden, but I do love planting all my flowers and potted flowers - getting excited for Spring! Anyone have any "new" flowers they've come across for this year? Happy Friday to all!

My family lives on a lot of land and we usually plant fields full of corn and other yummy goodness, but no, we don't start for a few months!

We don't have a house yet so I have very little gardening experience but I look forward to starting one after we buy our first house this spring!

I am definitely not a gardening kind of person. I have such a black thumb.

We have tried gardens with veggies and flowers, but not had a lot of success. Our biggest issue is a bunny family that will not leave things alone no matter what we do. Of course, the one year we bought natural spray to keep them away, hail got everything.
